SSD Guide to a Summer full of Festivals

It's nearly summer, which means all the best festivals in the UK will be coming up shortly! The UK has a festival for everyone, including Glastonbury Festival, The Isle of Wight Festival, Creamfields, Reading and Leeds Fest, T in the Park, Boomtown, Goodwood Festival and many more! Aside from having minibuses, SUVs and small / medium sized vans available and ready to take you and your friends and family to your favourite festival line ups, we’ve put together some top tips on getting all your gear there. Let’s dive in!

The Journey is the Destination

Making sure you, your friends and loved ones all reach and leave the festival safely should be your number one concern. That doesn’t however mean that you can’t have fun along the way! Most festivals have shuttle buses or alternative means of transport from nearby parking areas, so be sure to check the parking and accessibility section before booking. Car or van pooling with friends can be another great way to get there, allowing you to split the cost of parking and fuel. This is where hiring a vehicle from us really comes in handy. You can fit everyone in one vehicle, as well as all your stuff. Leave yourself plenty of time to get there early as places fill up quickly.

Think fashion and safety

The chances are if you are an avid festival goer you probably already have boots (or even wellies!) for the festival, but if not consider some! As we mentioned above, these festivals do tend to end up being a bit of a mud bath, especially when the great British summer weather strikes! Music tents and performance areas can get downtrodden with mud, and so can the parking areas. Pack a spare pair of shoes for the journey home, trust us, your feet will appreciate it after 3 days of dancing! It’s also a good idea to take a couple of carrier bags with you to place all your muddy gear in to keep it separate.

What to take with you

Whether it’s your first time attending a festival, or you’re a regular each year, here’s some packing ideas of how to make your festival experience more comfortable:

  • Sunscreen and protective accessories such as a hat and sunglasses
  • Insect repellent/small muslin to hang over tent opening
  • A tent, sleeping bag and camping mat
  • Waterproof coat or Poncho
  • Baby wipes and/or hand sanitiser
  • Dry shampoo
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snacks/food
  • Cash as certain food vendors do not accept card payments
  • A power bank/solar charger in case you need to reach the outside world
