Important information about your driving licence

On Monday 8 June 2015, the paper counterpart of the driving licence will be abolished by the DVLA, and will no longer provide an accurate guide to the drivers' endorsements or entitlements. Any updates to licences will be held centrally by the DVLA, but drivers will still need to retain the plastic photo card.

Given the above, Skipton Self Drive must be able to check driving licences using a DVLA check code. This method requires the potential hirers to access their own driving licence data using the DVLA website https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence. The hirer needs their driving licence number and their national insurance number to be able to do this. They then select the option to generate a code, which they then pass to the rental desk. This code, along with the last 8 digits of the licence number, is entered into another DVLA website by the hire desk, and the endorsements and entitlements will be confirmed. This confirmation can be printed by Skipton Self Drive and kept with the hire agreement. These codes are only valid for 21 days.
